The project is currently under construction, and the successful candidate will have the task of working with the design team and owners to help finalise the displays, life support systems and operational aspects of the aquarium to meet the planned opening of Easter 2015. The Aquarium will have 18 tanks, mostly Tropical systems and also 6 insect and amphibian displays.

As a visitor centre Wildwood is dedicated to educating our visitors about British wildlife and Wildwood’s conservation work. To support this your duties will include:

Helping to educate the public through talks and demonstrations about our animals

Assisting with our conservation projects

Helping to promote wildlife conservation

Helping to run events at the park

Engaging and assisting visitors around the park

Twycross Zoo is currently going through an exciting period of change as the zoo develops and we are looking for dynamic, knowledgeable individuals to help lead the teams forward.

We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Keeper on our Large Mammals section.  The section manages a range of ungulate and carnivore species including zebra, nyala, tapir, Amur leopard, snow leopard, meerkat, Kirk’s dik dik, Asian elephant and giraffe, which will arrive in 2015.   

Key Responsibilities

•        A hands-on role, working on the section and covering all areas of daily animal husbandry including feeding, cleaning, training and record keeping

•        Interacting with visitors to the zoo

•        Assisting with the supervision and training of staff

Key Skills & Requirements

•        A high performing, enthusiastic individual with a proven track record in zoo animal management

•        Minimum of 4 years’ experience as a keeper

•        Able to demonstrate a substantial working knowledge of the natural history and management of key species

•        A good team worker with a positive outlook

•        Excellent communication skills

•        Committed to continued professional development of yourself and other staff

•        Supervisory experience advantageous

•        An animal related qualification such as ANCMZA or DZMAA

This is a full time position, including weekend duties on a rota system.  Salary is paid monthly and we provide uniform, 31 days holiday, 5% employer’s pension contribution.

Applications are invited for an experienced keeper on the Primate and Small Mammal Section of the Park.

The successful applicant will be responsible for assisting in the daily husbandry of the section, and will work in close co-operation with the Section Head and his staff towards the continuous development of the section. They will be expected to undertake all relevant aspects of work in a progressive animal collection. Assisting in the presentation of educational talks is essential.

A minimum of 3 years’ experience with Primate species is essential. Applicants will need to demonstrate good communication skills, be self-motivated, and able to lead and work as part of a team. Possession of a relevant animal management qualification is desired and a full driving licence is essential for this position.

Vacancy Description:

An exciting opportunity to join one of Wales’ leading tourist attractions at Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo in the heart of Pembrokeshire. The role will be based predominantly on the hoofstock section of the Zoo, working with a range of species including giraffe and zebra, but will include training and cover on all sectors. Responsibilities include all aspects of animal care, including daily cleaning and feeding regimes, upkeep of animal records and the maintenance of hygiene standards across all Zoo facilities and enclosures.

The successful candidate will need a pro-active approach to team work, and should be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, with a positive, can-do attitude. A full driving licence is essential, with qualifications to degree level in Zoology or a related subject also desirable. The successful candidate will have a proven experience, a minimum of 1 year, of working in a Zoo or Safari Park, and within strict standard operating procedures. Welsh speaking and/or use of chainsaw would also be advantageous.

£15,075 - £18,290 (dependent upon qualifications)

The post holder will work under the direction of the Animal Management Centre (AMC) Curator in undertaking the management and daily husbandry of the Reptile, Amphibian and Invertebrate collections.

Working with instructors, the post holder will provide practical support, and supervision to students in practical subjects both on an individual and group basis, ensuring provision is learner focused, to achieve exemplary standards in animal welfare, teaching and customer service.

Candidates should be educated to at least level 2 in a relevant vocational subject and be able be able to demonstrate significant professional experience working with a range of reptile and amphibian species preferably in an accredited zoo or similar establishment. A flexible approach to a varied workload with a real enthusiasm for the animals you will be working with along with some teaching or supervisory experience would be advantageous.

This post is based at the Sparsholt campus. The college is a full BIAZA member and holds extensive collections of these taxa with many species of conservation concern.
